Introduction

Concrete is an essential building material in our lives, and making it high strength offers various advantages. For example, since increasing the strength reduces the cross-sectional area required to withstand a given force, the prospects for the verticalization of buildings and longer civil engineering structures are good. Moreover, ultra-high strength concrete has excellent durability, enabling the creation of enduring structures.
We have been selling the ultra-high-strength fiber-reinforced concrete (UFC) Ductal® since 2000, and were the first to promote in Japan the use of precast concrete technology that exhibits a compressive strength of 200N/mm2 equivalent to steel. Moreover, in 2006 we started selling SFPC® (Silica Fume Premixed Cement) that exhibits a compressive strength of 150N/mm2, and in 2010 developed SFPC200® that exhibits a compressive strength of 200N/mm2, establishing ready-mixed concrete technology with ultra-high strength.
Recently there has been further competition in the development of ultra-high strength concrete, centered on Japan's major construction companies, with higher strengths being achieved each year. Against this backdrop, we attempted to create concrete that exhibits the world's highest compressive strength, without losing concrete's conventional workability and practicality. To that end, we revisited theories from material science and particle technology in pursuit of "pore elimination," reducing the voids in concrete to a bare minimum. We named this new concrete that exhibits the highest strength in the world "PFC (Pore Free Concrete/Porosity Free Concrete)."
