Corporate Philosophy
This page provides information on Taiheiyo Cement's Mission, Business Principles, Standards of Conduct, and Corporate Governance.
Mission
Our mission is to contribute to social infrastructure development by providing solutions that are environmentally efficient, enhance our competitive position and bring value to our stakeholders.
This mission statement incorporates the concept of "sustainable development" advocated by the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD), of which we are a member. Sustainable development means to conduct business activities that are in accordance with the "triple bottom line" approach, which adds social responsibility and environmental sustainability to the conventional bottom line of financial performance, in order to maintain competitiveness in the future. Its goal is to meet the needs of the current generation without losing the capability to meet the needs of future generations.
The Taiheiyo Cement Group mission statement means that, recognizing that Earth's resources are limited and that we are subject to constraints to minimize environmental impacts, we will strive to play a leading role in building a future where both the current generation and subsequent generations can continue growing. To fulfill this mission, we will conduct business activities that not only increase our profits and help grow the economy, but also contribute to the environment (e.g., by greening our former mining sites and reducing CO2, NOx, and SOx) and to communities (e.g., by creating jobs and building a circular economy system).
Business Principles
These Business Principles are the fundamental principles that the Company and all of its officers and employees must observe when conducting business activities, and
they serve as guidelines for putting the “Taiheiyo Cement Group Mission” into practice. The Business Principles also set out the corporate ethics the Company follows as a member of society. All officers and employees act in accordance with these Business Principles in the course of their business activities.
Fully aware of our role as leader of the Taiheiyo Cement Group, we will work to both grow as a company and build a competitive corporate group. We will also continue striving to expand the total profit we generate to increase economic value of the group and meet the expectations of stakeholders.
Recognizing that our industry consumes a large amount of natural resources and energy, we will work proactively to reduce our environmental impact and take preventative measures to conserve the environment. In addition, we will contribute to building a sustainable recycling-based society by taking full advantage of the unique characteristics of the cement industry and utilizing various types of waste as fuel, raw materials, and other resources. We will implement these initiatives in harmony with local communities.
We fully understand and comply with all applicable laws and regulations, both in Japan and overseas, as well as our internal rules and regulations. Furthermore, by ensuring that both the Company and each of its employees act in accordance with social norms and standards, we will build and maintain the trust and confidence of society and strive to establish a management system founded on compliance.
We will actively disclose necessary corporate information in a fair, and equitable manner and promote communication with our stakeholders.
Building on more than 100 years of technological expertise, we will never rest on our achievements. We will continually pursue technological innovation and consistently deliver socially beneficial, reliable products and services under rigorous quality control. In particular, we will actively pursue technological developments in the fields of infrastructure and circular economy systems.
We will conduct our business activities with a broad, global perspective. We will also comply with international standards and rules, respect the culture and customs of each country, and strive to build mutual trust with local communities.
We will anticipate changes in the business environment, develop appropriate measures to adapt to those changes, act with flexibility and initiative, and foster a dynamic corporate culture.
Each individual will continually strive for self-improvement with the goal of becoming a highly-skilled “professional member of staff” in their respective field, while the Company will support their professional development.
We will respect the rights of our employees and all others involved in our business activities, while striving to ensure their safety and health and to create a positive and comfortable working environment.
