Cement is used in various environments in our daily lives. It is widely used in an extensive range of structures, and has become an essential material. Cement can be broadly divided into 5 types, as shown in Table 1. These cement types are categorized by their constituents and how they are used.

In recent years there have been growing calls for recycling. The fuel and raw materials used in the cement manufacturing process include waste materials and byproducts from other industries. These waste products and byproducts which can be used as fuel and raw materials for cement because they contain the main ingredients of cement (calcium oxide, silicon dioxide, aluminum oxide, and ferric oxide). However, since they also contain trace elements, it is not as easy to procure a stable supply of these material sources as it is to procure natural limestone or clay. Because of this, the use of waste products and byproducts as fuel and raw materials requires the technical development and facility investment needed to achieve a high level of quality management.

Taiheiyo Cement always strives for high level quality management in order to expand the use of waste products and byproducts as fuel and raw materials for cement production, without sacrificing cement quality.
