There are a range of concrete pavement varieties to optimally suit various conditions and environments such as those of individual facilities, site environments, and construction conditions.
Concrete pavement supports our daily lives in a variety of environments and areas.

Jointed plain/reinforced concrete pavement (JPCP, JRCP)

The most common type of concrete pavement generally consists of slabs which are 20 to 30cm thick, with joints spaced 5 to 10m apart. Dowel bars and tie bar are inserted in the joints, holding the slabs together.

Roller compacted concrete pavement (RCCP)

RCCP is one of JPCP. Low slump concrete is spread evenly with an asphalt pavement finisher, and compressed and compacted with a vibratory roller. It is easy to work, low cost, and makes it possible to rapidly use the pavement for traffic.

Continuously reinforced concrete pavement (CRCP)

Instead of inserting horizontal joints, vertically arranged rebar is used to distribute shrinkage and cracking, providing pavement continuity. This type of concrete eliminates the need for horizontal joints, improving drivability.

Composite pavement

In composite pavement, asphalt pavement is layered over concrete pavement (standard, RCCP or CRCP), offering the structural durability of concrete and the positive road surface performance of asphalt.

Pervious concrete pavement

Pervious concrete is used for JPCP. The pervious concrete with 15% to 20% of voids provides benefits such as drainage, permeability, and noise reduction benefits. It also offers a higher level of durability than porous asphalt pavement.

White-topping pavement (Concrete overlay pavement)

White-topping pavement (concrete overlay pavement) is used as a rutting repair method for asphalt pavement, overlaying asphalt pavement with a thin layer of concrete (5 to 10cm) as a friction-resistant layer.

Fiber reinforced concrete pavement

Fiber reinforced concrete is used for pavement. In fiber reinforced concrete, steel fibers or organic fibers are mixed into the concrete to improve its tensile resistance, bend resistance, and viscosity. It is used to reduce cracking in thin concrete slabs.

Very early strength concrete pavement

Very early strength concrete is used for urgent repair of pavement. The concrete hardens in a matter of hours after working, making it possible for the pavement to be used for traffic on the same day.

Precast concrete pavement

This method consists of installing concrete slabs manufactured in a plant. It requires no on-site curing, making it possible to use the pavement for traffic immediately.

Post-tension prestressed concrete pavement

This pavement consists of multiple concrete slabs joined together, to which tension is applied with prestressed concrete steel bars in advance, for a high level of strength.

Interlocking concrete block pavement

Interlocking blocks, etc. provide improved workability in this pavement for vehicle and pedestrian use. One notable feature is that blocks can be combined in different ways to achieve various design aesthetics.
